Intentional Community for Elders

Introduction

This is about a project to create an intentional community that empowers seniors into powerfully serve, integrate and impact the following generations. The Industrial revolution, consumerism and suburbia, have taken its toll on the culture of elders mentoring the next generation into a healthy, happy lifestyle. It is time to restore this healthy and honorable tradition.

How to do this?

History has shown that we need to create a physical and social environment to facilitate this project, which includes taking care of ourselves in our last third of life.

  • A proximity-based (neighborhood) community of elders
  • Training in empowerment, leadership for active eldering
  • Community to support each other physically, socially & spiritually
  • See base established in this manufactured home & RV community in South Austin

There are many activities and arrangements required to bring forth the magic of powerful eldering:

  • Community support agreements between members as a senior living community
  • Opportunities for socializing, assistance and community support
  • Training, coaching and support for professional, empowered eldership
  • Opportunities for leadership and eldering
  • Affordable housing and opportunities for cost savings through community pooling of resources, services and energies

Is this for me?

Are you a single, over 55 looking for community, and interested in a new role as a serving the localcommunity as an elder/leader? Do you want to put some thought and energy into making your senior life will be much better, fulfilling and meaningful? This will take training, planning and other personal growth commitments.

The expertise and growth will be modeled after other grass-roots organizations, such as, Mankind Project. Community members will attend elder gatherings and other leadership training events at their own expense and bring back their new skill and share with their elder community. The community will grow based on inspiration for participation and volunteerism. There is no real organizational budget for an elder's personal training and development. Each elder will source funding for their own personal passions and projects.
